My face blistered against the scarlet stovetop. A bead of sweat rolled across my brow, down my bronzed cheek, and clung to my clinched jaw. It hung for a moment, too stubborn to let go. Chapter 6 I sat in on a philosophy course instructed by Dr. Reeder. It surprised me nobody noticed I didn’t answer during role call. Dr. Reeder didn’t seem to care. Stare at the screen, hands hover over the keyboard. Pause. A tiny sigh, hands are drawn back, instead to tug down the long sleeves of the thermal. As if to hide from the world, even in broad daylight. It feels distant. They feel out of reach. Have things changed? Was a memo missed? Corrosive thoughts tear at the mind, have done so for years. The glass rained down and glued the petals to her eyelashes, so that their colour would seep into her vision; but her eyes were pearls, and her eyelids clamshells. Lights swam through the night-time air, but she was sitting tight and still, with love-drawn carriages upon her cheeks. The silence pressed against the windows and settled, heavy, in her lungs. Consider it. I'm curious. It would depend on what I was looking for.

Change it! I wouldn't pick up a book with a title that means nothing to me.

Question for novelists and novel readers...

As I'm posting excerpts I would like to get a general opinion as to the best sharing strategy for writers. In conjunction with chapters from my books I will, of course, put other original content up, but in the mean time I'm curious as to how much of your work would you post if you're hopes are for making it commercial. Should I post new chapters often or is less more? What's your opinion? Do you need a sample before committing to a new book? Does it irk you to get through a few chapters only to see "If you want to know what happens next please purchase..."? Or are you of the mindset that if it's good you'll buy it regardless of how much or

dA Noob: Welcome to Community

Hello artists and art lovers, I'm a writer out of the Dallas, Texas area, though I'm currently at an undisclosed location in southwest Asia. I'm of the transitional generation of kids that didn't grow up with smartphones and Internet access in their pockets, and I'm also a cultural nomad. I've been hesitant to join websites like deviantArt because I don't know if I'm fast enough to keep up with the online world. But, I've held back long enough, and now I'm here to stay. Mostly, I'll be posting journals, excerpts, and short stories. Occasionally I dabble with other creative endeavors, which I'll post too, but I wouldn't expect anything too s
